LABEOC Update, 25 March 2020

As of 1200 today, there were 1,795 reported cases in Louisiana and 65 reported deaths.  491 COVID-19 cases were hospitalized.    The primary lines of effort remain unchanged:   (1) flatten the curve by limiting exposure and (2) continue to surge medical capacity to prevent our hospital systems from being overwhelmed.

Governor Edwards stressed today that there is no evidence that the curve is flattening yet and the coming days will tell if we acted quickly enough.    The Governor’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration to the federal government was approved today allowing for additional federal support for state and local agencies.

CYBER ALERT.    The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management released a Cyber Risk Management message (attached) detailing the increase in phishing and malware campaigns exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic.   These campaigns are being used for financial gain through blackmail, ransomware, or payment redirection fraud.   Additionally, state actors have launched disinformation campaigns to incite fear and panic.

Louisiana Economic Development Organizations.   Our state economic development organizations continue to lead public sector information dissemination and stand-up of programs to support employers and employees.    Today we highlight One Acadiana’s efforts at https://lafayette.org/site458.php
